After being approved for an Audio or Video Conversation job, complete the steps below before beginning work.
Work that does not meet the project requirements may be rejected and may not be eligible for payment.

Before you begin

Your approval is based on the information provided in your profile, application and submitted samples. You must:
  • Meet the language and accent requirements for the job
  • Use the microphone, camera and equipment listed in your application
  • Complete all work through your own account
  • Maintain the quality demonstrated during your application or audition
Do not begin working if your equipment, qualifications or recording environment have changed. Contact WorkBolt before continuing.

Starting your job

Open your approved job

Go to your WorkBolt dashboard, select the approved job and review all job-specific instructions.

Join the private Discord channel

Approved Experts are added to a private Discord channel for each job. Review the pinned messages and recent announcements before recording.Discord may also be used to coordinate recording times with other approved Experts.

Prepare your equipment

Connect your approved microphone, headphones and camera before opening the recording platform.Confirm that the correct devices are selected and working.

Complete one recording

Complete only one Audio or Video Conversation when starting a new job.

Wait for review

Do not complete additional recordings until your first submission has been reviewed and approved.This allows the team to identify audio, video or participation issues before more work is completed.
Completing multiple recordings before your first submission is approved is at your own risk. Additional recordings may be rejected if your setup or participation does not meet the project standard.

Audio Conversation requirements

Before every recording:
  • Connect your approved external microphone before opening the platform
  • Select the microphone by its exact name
  • Do not leave the microphone input set to Default
  • Do not use your computer’s built-in microphone
  • Confirm that the input meter responds when you speak
  • Use headphones to prevent partner audio bleed
  • Keep headphone volume low
  • Keep your headphones away from the microphone
  • Record in a quiet room
  • Close doors and windows
  • Silence notifications, fans, appliances and other noise sources
Your partner may still hear you when the wrong microphone is selected. Always verify the selected input before joining. If the platform repeatedly selects the wrong microphone:
  1. Clear the site’s cookies and microphone permissions
  2. Close and reopen Chrome
  3. Reconnect your approved microphone
  4. Select the microphone by its exact name

First Audio Conversation review

Your first submission will be reviewed for:
  • Microphone and recording quality
  • Background noise and echo
  • Partner audio bleed
  • Correct microphone selection
  • Conversation quality and participation
  • Compliance with the job guidelines
Once your first Audio Conversation is approved, you may continue completing available conversations.

Video Conversation requirements

We strongly recommend completing and receiving approval for your first Audio Conversation before beginning Video Conversations. Complete only one Video Conversation initially and wait for approval before recording more.

Background

Use a clean and uncluttered background. A plain white background is preferred. Avoid:
  • Windows or bright lights behind you
  • Paintings, posters and decorations
  • Distracting objects
  • Textured or cluttered walls
  • Other people appearing on camera
A plain white sheet or cloth may be used as a temporary background.

Camera position

  • Position the camera at eye level
  • Look toward the camera while speaking
  • Keep your face and upper body visible
  • Sit an appropriate distance from the camera
  • Raise your laptop or camera using a stand or books when needed
  • Avoid looking significantly upward or downward

Microphone placement

  • Use the microphone approved for the job
  • Confirm that the correct microphone is selected
  • Position the microphone close enough to capture clear audio
  • Keep it slightly to the side so it does not block your face
  • Continue using headphones to prevent partner audio bleed

Lighting

  • Record in a well-lit room
  • Keep your face clearly visible throughout the recording
  • Avoid strong shadows
  • Avoid placing bright lights or windows behind you
  • Do not record in a dark room

Camera quality

MacBook cameras are accepted. External cameras must meet or exceed MacBook camera quality. Contact WorkBolt before using a camera that was not included in your approved application.
Video recordings that do not meet the background, camera position, lighting, audio or equipment requirements may be automatically rejected.

Changing your setup

Contact WorkBolt before recording if you change your:
  • Microphone
  • Audio interface
  • Camera
  • Computer
  • Recording environment
Equipment that was not reviewed or approved may result in rejected work.
