How to resolve technical issues and contact the WorkBolt team.
Check your microphone input
Before every recording:- Connect your external microphone before opening the platform
- Select the microphone by its exact name
- Do not leave the input set to Default
- Do not use your laptop’s built-in microphone
- Confirm that the input meter responds when you speak
Audio interfaces
If you plan to use an audio interface, contact the team before using it on the recording platform. Include your:- Microphone model
- Interface model
- Computer and operating system
Failed quality checks
If your microphone, background noise or internet connection does not meet the project standard, the platform may prevent you from joining. This is an intentional quality-control feature and is not necessarily a bug. Background noise
If the background-noise check fails:- Turn off fans, appliances and nearby electronics
- Close windows and doors
- Move away from plugged-in devices
- Try another room
Electrical hum
If you hear buzzing or humming:- Move away from rooms with many plugged-in devices
- Unplug unnecessary chargers and equipment
- Connect the microphone directly to your computer
- Avoid unapproved USB hubs
- Try another USB port or room
Noise bleed
If you can hear your conversation partner in your own recording:- Wear headphones at all times. Do not use speakers.
- Lower your headphone volume until your microphone no longer picks up your partner’s voice.
- Use closed-back headphones or earbuds to reduce sound leakage.
- Position your microphone closer to your mouth and farther away from your headphones.
- Record a short test clip before joining to confirm only your voice is being captured.
Echo
If your recording contains echo:- Make sure your microphone is not picking up audio from speakers.
- Reduce your headphone volume.
- Move your microphone closer to your mouth.
- Record in a room with carpets, curtains, or other soft furnishings to reduce room reflections.
Microphone placement
For the best recording quality:- Position the microphone 4–8 inches (10–20 cm) from your mouth.
- Speak directly into the front of the microphone.
- Avoid touching or moving the microphone during a recording.
- Use a stable surface or microphone stand whenever possible.
Static or crackling
If you hear static, crackling, or intermittent audio:- Disconnect and reconnect your microphone.
- Try a different USB port.
- Close any applications that may be using your microphone.
- Restart Chrome and reconnect your microphone.
- If possible, test with another USB cable.
Audio levels
Your voice should be clear and easy to understand without clipping or distortion.- If your audio sounds distorted, reduce your microphone gain or input level.
- If your voice is too quiet, increase the gain or move closer to the microphone.
- Maintain a consistent speaking volume throughout the recording.
Browser
For the best experience:- Use the latest version of Google Chrome.
- Close unnecessary tabs and applications before recording.
- Disable browser extensions that modify audio if you experience issues.
- Refresh the page if your microphone or camera stops responding.
Internet
If the internet check fails:- Move closer to your router
- Stop downloads, streaming and video calls
- Use Ethernet when available
- Switch to a more stable connection
